Department of health Gauteng invites young unemployed individuals who have the necessary qualifications to apply for social worker vacancy.

Requirements :

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12/Matric). Recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP) as a social worker. Proof of current registration with SACSSP. Knowledge and understanding of applicable and relevant legislations and policies in the field of Health Social Work including related legal and ethical practices, PFMA and Public Service Act and Regulations. Knowledge and understanding of mental health, social systems and skills to ensure that one intervenes efficiently and effectively at the points where people interact with their environments in order to promote social and mental well-being. Theoretical and practical knowledge of all Social Work Methods. Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary context. Good verbal and written communication skills, Counselling Skills, Planning and time management skills, Interpersonal skills and computer Literacy. Analytic thinking, independent decision-making and problem solving skills. Valid driver’s license and able to drive.

Duties :

  • Manage the licensing of Mental Health Residential and Day Care facilities in accordance with current legislations and guidelines. Ensure that quality mental health services are provided at the NGOs according to regulated norms, standards and ethical principles. Regularly monitoring and evaluate compliance with these guidelines through monthly visits and quarterly audits. Provide ongoing supervision, training and support to all levels of personnel in these facilities. Conduct psychosocial assessments aimed at identifying conditions of individuals, groups, families and communities. Implement the recommended interventions. Increase capacity of residential and day care facilities, community-based rehabilitation programme (NGOs, consumer organisations and the community at large) to provide appropriate self-help and peer led services for users and their families. Engage with WBOTS program and other Health outreach services including other stakeholders in the communities (training and support) to integrate mental health services into their service delivery objectives. Establish, maintain and participate in inter-sectorial and multi-disciplinary forum that promotes a seamless delivery of efficient and effective mental health care. Perform all administrative functions: complete Daily and monthly statistics. Compose minutes of meetings. Compile reports and submit reports. Attend and participate in clinical supervision sessions. Utilize information technology and other management information systems to manage mental health information for the enhancement of service delivery and writing of reports. Support mental health related research and development in NGOs.
