POSTS: SEASONAL LIFEGUARD × 30
- Employment Contract: ONE [1] MONTH
- Salary: R 150.00 PER DAY
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 6 months of life-saving experience;
- A valid Lifeguard Award Certification from a recognized body, such as the Red Cross, or other accredited programs or be in possession of relevant qualification with valid annual retests Certificate.
- Valid Certificate in Basic First Aid Level 2
- Physical fit and able-bodied;
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- A clear criminal record and no pending criminal cases, awaiting trial and/or pending sentencing cases;
- To be drug-free: all shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo compulsory drug testing;
- Surf proficiency Award Certificate will be an added advantage.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Constantly observing swimmers and other individuals in the water to quickly identify potential dangers or emergencies.
- Being vigilant about hazards such as strong currents, rough waves, overcrowding, and unsafe swimming practices.
- Ensuring that swimmers adhere to the posted rules
- Quickly responding to swimmers in distress by using appropriate rescue techniques, such as swimming out to assist, using flotation devices, or throwing rescue lines.
- Administering basic first aid, including CPR, to individuals who are injured or unconscious after a n accident.
- Informing swimmers and beachgoers about water safety guidelines, such as flag warnings, weather conditions, and hazardous areas.
- Occasionally demonstrating lifesaving techniques to educate the public about safety practices in water.
- Ensuring that rescue equipment, such as flotation devices, first aid kits, and communication tools, is in good working order and easily accessible.
- Handling minor injuries like cuts, bruises, or jellyfish stings by providing basic first aid treatment.
- Documenting accidents, rescues, and any safety concerns in detail for future reference or investigation.
- Constantly evaluating environmental conditions (e.g., weather changes, water temperature, tidal shifts) to assess risk levels and make necessary adjustments to ensure safety.
- Managing the behaviour of large crowds in busy swimming areas and ensuring that everyone remains safe and follows regulations.
- Clean beach areas and uphold the professional image of the Municipality.
