SAPS Police Trainee Vacancies 2025 – Recruitment Overview

  • Position Title: Police Trainee
  • Reference Number: TRAINEE2025/2026
  • Appointment Act: SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No. 68 of 1995)
  • Stipend During Training: R4,500 per month (with applicable benefits)
  • Salary After Training: R238,629 per annum (Constable rank)

Educational and Career Opportunities

Applicants with a 3-year National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or higher) in the following fields may be considered for specialized units:

  • Law
  • Policing
  • Criminology
  • Law Enforcement
  • Forensic Investigation
  • Information Technology (IT)

Eligible candidates may be placed in:

  • Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI)
  • Detective and Forensic Services
  • Crime Intelligence (CI)

Training Details

Successful applicants will undergo the 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme at a SAPS Training Academy.

SAPS will provide:

  • Free training gear, meals, and accommodation
  • Medical aid benefits for the duration of training
  • Upon completion, trainees are appointed as Constables in the SAPS.

Core Police Duties

Police trainees will be responsible for:

  • Upholding and enforcing the law

SAPS Police Trainee Requirements (As per SAPS Employment Amendment Regulations, 2023)

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen (proof required)
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Be fluent in English and one other official language
  • Be physically and mentally fit
  • Be willing to take the oath of office
  • Have no visible tattoos in uniform
  • Have no criminal record, pending cases, or history of dishonesty
  • Be willing to undergo:
    • Medical, physical, and psychological assessments
    • Security vetting and fingerprint verification
    • Integrity testing and background checks

Important: Applicants dismissed from a previous employer for misconduct, dishonesty, or violence will not be considered.

SAPS Police Trainee Vacancies 2025 – Selection Criteria & Preferences

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Have a valid driver’s license (light motor vehicle)
  • Hold NQF Level 6 or higher qualifications in Criminal Law, Policing, or Forensics
  • Meet the minimum BMI (≤ 30) and waist circumference:
    • Men: ≤ 102 cm
    • Women: ≤ 90 cm

All applicants will undergo:

  • Fitness tests
  • Psychometric testing
  • Medical evaluation
  • Personal interviews

Shortlisted candidates may be screened against the National Register for Sex Offenders and the Child Protection Register.
